Recording for The Decayed Realms’ debut album was finished days before a wrist and hip surgery that would incapacitate percussionist Brandon Patrick Sullivan for the winter. That did not deter him nor melodist Victoria Malawey, who insisted on continued collaboration.

For four months, The Decayed Realms improvised new pieces weekly, experimenting with drum machines, guitar pedals, and layered synth sounds. By the time the all-clear came from the doctor in spring, the duo had amassed 71 unique pieces.

Grounded is a collection of improvisations about purpose, isolation, and wisdom. These pieces are unaltered from their original composition. Each were chosen for their therapeutic creation in establishing the distinctive voice from confined, humbling circumstance.
